Overview: Automated residential access solutions allow homeowners associations, multi-family housing complexes, gated developments, luxury condominiums, private compounds, and residential garages to authorize incoming traffic at entry gates or barrier arms.

Barcode Automation, inc. (BAi) manufactures an entry system most often used for residential gated communities. Our long-range barcode reader are specifically engineered for hands-free, automatic, vehicle identification. We've engineered our system with tamper-evident vehicle tags, local database management, and seamless hardware connectivity. All this without extra fees or software subscription costs.

By the time a vehicle approached your gate, a BAi Reader will have already identified the vehicle's unique barcode tag. BAi's built-in DualBeam Laser automatically and instantly reads the credential and either opens the gate operator or transmits the information to your access controller. Drivers don't stop, they don't roll down their window, and they don't reach out in bad weather for keypads—they keep their attention on the road and drive.

System Architecture & Identification

BAi Readers function as the "eyes" of a complete gate access control system. As a vehicle approaches your community entrance, BAi Readers use our DualBeam Laser design to identify the barcode decal instantly and automatically.

Component Human Comparison Function
BAi Reader Eyes of the system Identifies credentialed vehicles
Gate Operator Arms and Muscles Blocks vehicles until identifies
Access Controller Brains Database validation & auditing

Unlike proprietary vehicle identification systems, BAi hardware uses industry-standard communications. This allows seamless integration with any controller supporting standard Wiegand protocol.

Common Residential Applications

  • Master Planned Communities: Supports up to 8 facility codes to manage main gates, clubhouses, golf courses, and docks while keeping sub-associations isolated.
  • HOA Communities: Streamlines resident entry while maintaining guest access rules and simple credential administration.
  • Gated Neighborhoods: Maintains steady vehicle flow along dedicated resident lanes that experience heavy traffic.
  • Apartment Complexes: Controls tenant parking areas while maintaining structured entry points for visitors and maintenance personnel.
  • Condominiums & Multi-Family: Utilizes a single credential across main gate barriers, garage doors, and restricted secondary access points.
  • Student Housing: Manages high-volume and high-turnover properties. Prevents lost, shared, or copied credentials with significant savings over UHF RFID tags.

Technical Specifications & System Advantages

Reliable Hands-Free Performance As vehicles enter, BAi laser readers actively read retro-reflective barcode decals (that are attached to side windows). Unlike license plate readers (LPR) that rely on predictive software to make "educated guesses" at the license plate characters, we use direct binary laser decoding. In a fraction of a second, our laser Reader decodes an exact credential ID number at speeds up to 25mph. This eliminates traffic congestion during peak hours.
Weather, Lighting, and Glass Immunity Heavy rain, dense fog, direct solar glare, or pitch darkness frequently blind optical cameras and impair traditional RFID signals. BAi DualBeam Laser Barcode are unbothered by adverse weather conditions and are completely unaffected by metallic window tints or specialized automotive glass.
Tamper-Proof & Anti-Cloning Decals BAi barcode decals feature specialized anti-cloning security substrates. This means that our Barcode Readers don't read photographs, photocopies, digital images or any other reproduction. BAi Readers only read authentic BAi barcode decals. Our decals are manufactured on a destructible credential material. If removal is attempted, the decal becomes unreadable. This prevents theft or a credential being transferred.
Local Data Privacy Protection BAi hardware strictly operates as a physical credential reader. Vehicle access data is minimized to a facility code and ID number. BAi Readers do not store or transmit resident identification to outside servers. Only the 3-digit facility code and 5-digit unique ID are transmitted to your physically connected access controller.
Heavy-Duty Hardware Protection & Warranty BAi Readers work in every climate because they're built in protective NEMA IV weatherproof enclosures. Every BAi Reader is ETL listed to UL Standard 294 for Outdoor Use in Access Control, and backed by a 2-year transferable limited warranty that covers power surges and lightning protection (upgradeable to 5 years at time of purchase).
